you are

My brother, dad, and I have gone on a week-long fishing trip on and off for the better part of 15 years. I think the first was ~91 or 92.
We haven't been in 3+ years now, and my brother got the idea that we had to go again this year.
Fine. Actually, good. I would like to go again, but it does screw up my vacation, since it seems like I have all 3 weeks allocated on "standard" vacations we take every year, and I already used one week's worth on disney. So throw in another non-standard vacation, and something's gotta give.
Not sure what yet, but point of the story is, Joe also demanded that we hire a fishing guide. For like $300. For something like 2-3 hours of "work".
It was also suggested/insisted that we needed a GPS unit to remember the 'hot spots'. None of this has been necessary before, so apparently my dad and brother are making way more $$ than me, and are eager to give it someone else.
I don't know what I'm talking about, I seem to have the same problem, just giving to other things.
So I volunteered to get the GPS, because it's a useful tool on the motorcycle if you take off-road trips, which I'd like to think I'll do in the near future, but that remains to be seen.
Anyway, after much searching, I just purchased this:

It's the entry model of the latest and greatest series of GPS's. I don't even want to acknowledge how much I spent on it, but after buying many consumer electronic products over the years, I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" so I didn't want the cheapest thing possible. This is considered cheap, yet has ever function you'd want.
How do I get talked into these things?

Speaking of which. I am still not clear about this at the time of this writing, but I may have been talked into doing an adventure race again. Last year I was going to, but was regretting it because I did not feel I was in anywhere near good enough shape to do it. I was saved because my partner broke his arm while we were training the week before the race. (Lucky me!)
Same guy asked me to do a race with me this sunday, and I said "I'm in worse shape than last year when you asked me"
He didn't seem to care. But I told him "no way"
He responded "I don't have anyone else, so I'm putting your name down. I'll continue to look for someone else, and if I find another person, you're off the hook. Otherwise, you're it"
What, is this guy my boss? Why am I listening to him? I told him over a year ago I thought they looked like fun, and I would be interested in trying one, but I want my first one to be a little kids one, not run 10 miles, bike 30 miles, blah, blah, blah.
My race would go something like this:
run 3 miles, walk 3 miles
bike 10 miles, get towed 20 miles
run .5 miles, drop dead

Yeah, this is going to be great. I'm waiting for a call from the governor to save me...
