saints of los angeles

We're back from World's of Fun, and it was as exhausting as I expected, but very fun.
Frist day was spent at Ocean's of Fun, which is a fun place but pretty small, you can do everything there in 4 hours. I didn't get burned, which was my main concern.
Then we ate at a bar-B-que place that was pretty good, and it was inside a casino. It was at that moment I realized that I totally dropped the ball, and could have stayed at the casino and played poker to get the room comped. Next time.
World's of Fun is great, they have several good roller coaters, including the Mamba, which is like in the top 15 in the world for speed, height, and length. It's stupid high.

Abby and Ally were both really excited to ride it, but even Abby freaked out on the climb up, the first time. Since we rode it twice, despite the 45 minutes line. Ann and Aubrey hate roller coaters, but Ann took one for the team, riding the ultra tame wooden roller coaster they have, but you can see she's not enjoying it.

I would have preferred to go to World of Fun on friday, in the hopes that it would have been less busy, but it was very good weather to be there on saturday, so it all worked out.
The girls love to ride the roller coasters so much, we may have to make a new goal to hit all the major theme parks of the us, like the ones in ohio, and NJ.

i got soul

we just spent the day at oceans of fun, and we are all wiped out. tomorrow it's a full day at world's of fun, and then, when i'm completed wiped out, I get to drive 3 hours home.

kansas city here I come

We're leaving for Kansas City right now for a weekend at Worlds of Fun. Hopefully the weather won't be too rainy, although it looks like avoiding rain all together is not possible. Rain at an amusement park is usually not a good combo, but we're going anyway!

make me laugh

I don't even know what these people are saying, but I can make an educated guess.
It really doesn't matter, I fell pain for them all, I've been in this situation before, in different roles, and it's all painful.

That said, this is freaking hilarious.

my problem

I need to find a intelligent way to right shift arithmetically with the condition that right shifting -1 leads to zero. Anybody got any ideas?
Anybody??

st anger

I had what I will call a bad day today.
Not the worst possible day, but nothing really good happened either.

Friday, we had judo practice, and then went out drinking, which was fun.

Saturday, I played tennis a few times with the kids, and watched my gutters actually work while it rained, yet again. I haven't even bothered turning on my sprinklers yet, all it does it rain every other day.

Today, we played our softball game, and for the first 59 minutes, I played flawlessly, getting great hits.
Then, in the bottom of the last inning, we're 5 runs down, we had 2 outs, and bases loaded with me up to bat. Time for a home run, right?
Or.... a pop fly out because I was trying too hard to hit a home run. And the general concensus was that I should have taken the walk that was surely coming.
Yeah, that's cool, and would have gotten close to 5 runs.
It's all or nothing for me baby, and this time, it was nothing.

Then I spent the rest of the afternoon designing and building a shelf of sorts for my poker table hoist, only when I was all finished to discover that it weighed too much, and then the hoist didn't work at all anymore.
So that sucked.
Back to square one.

crazy for you

Been doing a lot of working from home recently, due to the high gas prices. Every little bit helps I suppose. I'm kind of fortunate to be able to do that, and in fact, the work I'm doing is benefitting my thesis work, so hopefully I can get that going again.
I just bought this

I've been wanting some security systems for some time now, and the DIY route was the only way for me. So when it arrives, I will have a fun time setting it all up.

BTW, I got all the vegas pictures posted. They're not great, but I enjoy looking at the pictures of Jeff and I on the choppers we rented.

beer beer beer

Back home, and the trip was pretty fun. We got to do some non-gambling related things, like going and seeing Unwritten Law at the Hard Rock Casino, which was pretty fun for me. The guys I was with had no idea who they were, so I'm sure they were less excited, but too bad for them.

I had a grand total of two winning poker sessions throughout the trip, so I definitly lost money, when I have been quite used to the trip being a moneymaking experience in the past. But between riding some really cool choppers, some fun (but losing) poker sessions, and the concert, it was a fun trip.

The worst part of the trip was having to be on the phone with Ann while all my family was sitting in the basement during a tornado. There was even a tornado that touched down briefly 6 blocks from our house! I was not loving life at that moment.

But today was Father's Day, and I spent all day at home with the kids. Took them to a tennis court to try and teach them some tennis. It looks like a long process, but we'll keep at it.

whiskey in the jar

We went to New York, New York to visit Nine fine irishmen, and I thought I would have a pint of carlsberg, but they don't carry it anymore. But our waitress informed us of another irish bar, near the orleans that did. So today, we started the day off by attempting to rent harleys for the day, but they didn't have any! We couldn't believe it! So we ended up going to another motorcycle rental place I didn't even know existed, and we got MUCH cooler bikes.

We rode the bikes all over, including up and down the strip way too many times.

I'm testing posting from my new hot rod phone. seems ok. my plan is to post while i'm in vegas. should be there in 3 hours...

rest of my life

Leaving for vegas on tuesday.
This is going to be a good trip, because we already have many things planned, and I'm actually curious if I'm going to be able to get much poker playing time in there at all.
Among the things we are planning on going to:
US Judo & Wrestling Olympic trials
Unwritten Law at Hard Rock
Renting Harleys for a day
And of course an untold number of hours at the poker tables.

So I'm not in high work gear right now, and noticed some youtube video posted by some friends that I enjoyed, so thought I'd also post here.

This is the response to that video by a comedy team that I like quite a bit. You will recognize them as the "brothers" in last years mother's day video.

Then I found a newer video by them that made me chuckle.

But the best by far, is Weezer's new video, which is a montage of all the most popular youtube videos. They're the real "stars" of those videos, too. And the song isn't half bad as well.

That is all

happiness

Well, I am happy to report that my dad's surgery couldn't have gone better. I'm always a little skittish whenever someone has to go through such a major surgery, but he came out of that fine, and at the surgery was reported to be a huge success! So he now is cancer-free and will hopefully be able to resume a normal life.
So it's a good day here.

June 1, 2008

the plan

My dad goes in for his (hopefully) last surgery tomorrow, so I'll be a little on edge all morning.
At least at this point he's been declared cancer-free, which clearly the most important thing.
Now he's just trying to return to a normal life. I really hope this works.

carry the zero

Had a good weekend so far.
Helped my brother move on friday afternoon, and originally thought I would stay there most of the nite and hang out with him, but instead came home, and Ann and I went out. It was a fun time, just taking advantage of the girls being at a slumber party.
Turned out the girls went to sleep quite late, and needed to take a nap on saturday afternoon, which was great, because then I could take a nap as well.
Then saturday nite, we went out to dinner at lazlo's, a place I barely like to begin with. As usual, our service was awful, and the chicken salad I ordered came with a bonus ladybug.
Oh well.
We went there to meet my childhood friend Samir and his wife.
I tried to take a picture of them on my stupid camera phone, but it turned out like garbage.

It was really cool to see him, and his sister and her husband too.

When Samir first contacted me, I was at first afraid that I wouldn't have much in common with him anymore, but the nite went great. It was a lot of fun, and he's pretty much the same guy I knew in high school, which was nearly the last time I saw him.
